Edward Webb Lottich

Edward Webb "Bud" Lottich, 89, of Savannah, passed away Friday, July 10, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was a native of New Albany, Indiana, born on June 9, 1920 to Charlotte Lottich. He attended New Albany public schools, the University of Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a B.A. in Business Administration in 1964. With the outbreak of the Second World War he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. After training in Texas as a bombardier he transferred to the European Theater. On his 17th combat mission, his B-24 Liberator was shot down. Bud was captured and held as a prisoner of war for nearly twelve months in Stalag Luft III at Sagan, Germany and Stalag VIIA in Moosburg, Germany. He regained his freedom on April 28, 1945, when Patton's third army overran the camp.
After the war he left the service until 1950 when he rejoined the Air Force. In 1954, while stationed at Shaw AFB, Bud met and married the love of his life, Marion Stone.
His Air Force career took Bud and his new family across North America and Europe, including a tour of duty in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, until his retirement in 1971. He helped pioneer the computerization of the Air Force data systems. After retirement he worked in Atlanta in the Georgia State Department of Education and in real estate, finally retiring to Savannah in 1986.
While in Savannah he was an active golfer, organizing many golfing games for friends. He was also an avid reader, poker player, and especially a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Marion, four daughters, Jane D. Lottich, of Denver, Dr. S. Chace Lottich, of Indianapolis, Sally Thompson, of Seattle, and Marion D. Klingensmith, of Portsmouth, VA, and two sons, John Thomas Stone, of Chesapeake, VA, and Daniel E. Stone, of Summerville, SC. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many loving and faithful friends.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Giddens, officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at a reception in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made the Greenbriar Children's Center, 3605 Bull St., Savannah, GA, 31401.
